Field Of Dreams

One of my favorite movies of all time is Field of Dreams, and no surprise here - it involves sports. The movie is based off of a great book by WP Kinsella called Shoeless Joe. Most of you have seen the movie so I am not going into details, but it involves the lead character Ray Kinsella (played by Kevin Costner) inspired by "The Voice" instructing him to do many things. Because of the voice, he winds up plowing his cornfield and building a baseball field so that the ghosts of Shoeless Joe Jackson and the other seven Chicago White Sox players banned from the game for throwing the 1919 World Series (another great movie about this subject is Eight Men Out) appear . Among the many great story lines in this movie, what resonates with me is the message to go do what you are inspired by to fulfill your dreams. I love the "Go the distance" whisper that prompts Ray to bring Terrence Mann and Moonlight Graham to the field to fulfill their dreams.

On one of my pilgrimages to the mecca of baseball - Cooperstown, New York, I had this bat made to remind me to "Go the Distance" in all things I do.
